More evidence against BPA

If you havn’t already searched the camper for soft plastic bottles marked with a number 7 on the bottom maybe you should schedule it for Saturday!

With the latest study results you might want to review the blog entry Is camping killing us.

The EPA says, “A margin of safety exists that is adequate to protect consumers, including infants and children, at the current levels of exposure,” said Laura Tarantino, a senior FDA scientist.

I don’t know about you but I am uncomfortable about a “margin” of safety - I just want it safe - no margin, no maybes, no inconclusives. It seem also the protests of the Chemical Industry sounds a lot like the Tobaco Industry assurance that smoking wouldn’t harm us.

So the best advice - limit your exposure.  BPA leaches from polycarbonates. A major dietary source of BPA is canned beverages. Microwaving food in a polycarbonate container also causes leaching. Glass and recyclable plastic soda and water bottles do not contain polycarbonates.  Nonrecyclable plastic containers that are made with polycarbonates (including some baby bottles) are marked with the number 7 on the bottom. And before you buy, check the expiration date and look at the bottom for a recycle number.
