Sprinter operation, starting and electrical

Being part of a Sprinter forum (the one I visit most often) or discussion group gives you a chance to read about many people’s experience with their Sprinter. Don’t be surprised if it looks like there are lots of problems with the Sprinter as people with problems are the primary member of most groups.

Learned last week from the forum linked above. Your diesel Sprinter does have touch start like the gasoline engine.

Starting . . .
Gasoline engine
Turn the key to position 3 the ignition lock and release it immediately (“touch-start” function). The engine starts automatically.

Diesel engine . . .
Switch on the ignition. The preglow indicator lamp in the instrument cluster comes on. As soon as the preglow indicator lamp goes out, turn the key to position 3 in the ignition lock and release it as soon as the engine is running (substitute: immediately (“touch-start” function).

Electrical . . .
Learned from Sportsmobile
Check your OM page 338 entitled Battery Isolating Switch. This will show you where the switch is located. Press it “in” – it may be loose which would cause an electrical failure.
