Mercedes Benz will honor the Dodge basic warranty. So for me, that means I have 6,000 miles and 1 year of Mercedes warranty left.
Mercedes Benz will not honor any extended warranty purchased from Dodge. The key word here is purchased. Dodge got the money and it is their warranty. Maybe Dodge will refund money based upon the unused portion of the warranty but I don’t think it likely.
Mercedes Benz will be selling an extended warranty that Dodge Sprinter owners can purchase as long as their Sprinter is still covered under the original warranty. No word on months/miles/cost.
At least one Mercedes dealer will be marking a kit to change your Dodge logo’s to Mercedes. You can find these now on the market but perhaps the dealer will save you some money.
From what I read, the new Sprinter dealers are excited and ready to jump into the game. Yaaahooooo!

Keith -
Can I ask where you got this info from (that MB will honor the Dodge warranty, that MB will be selling the extended warranty, that some MB dealers might have re-badging)? I ask because I’m wondering if the warranty policy will differ by dealer, or will be a policy that MB expects all US Sprinter dealers to support.
Our local MB dealer now sells Sprinters, but doesn’t even have a parts book yet…

Hi Greg,
Most of my information is coming from a MB Sprinter dealer and a few Sprinter owners. Several have been MB and their work was covered under warranty. The extended warranty is mentioned on the MBUSA site as available in the spring. I have 33k+ on mine and plan to stop driving it if I have to until the extended warranty is available. I think all the dealers will have a rebadging kit and it is much less expensive than the ones on the market today.
Best bet – call your dealer. They are moving fast but I expect it will take a few months to get the wrinkles smoothed out.

I am about to buy a 2008 Dodge to convert at SMB. Ever curious I inquired this week about the extended warranty and MB told me the following:
“Thank you for your email.
Currently we have no information on Mercedes-Benz Extended Limited
Warranties being available for Dodge vehicles.
Kindest regards,
Mary M.

I am going by the information on the MB Sprinter site, which says an extended warranty will be available in Spring 2010. Since they honor the basic 36,000 mile/3 year warranty of Dodge, I am hoping, praying, banking on MB allowing Dodge Spinter owners that are still within the original Dodge warranty to purchase an extended warranty from MB.
All we can do is wait to see if this is true. I am pretty positive that this will occur.
Regards,
Keith
PS. Which SMB are you having your conversion done?
