About
I was fortunate to grow up in a small country town with good friends, horses, lots of skiing, hard work, and camping available just by walking out the back door. We could go up the Dolores River with a sleeping bag, a skillet and a fishing pole and be guaranteed a place to throw the sleeping bag down and fresh trout in the skillet. I remember being in the hills during the Cuban Missile Crisis - we were just ready to hunker down and stay in the mountains.
New Mexico Military Institute, a high school and junior college is my Alma mater. At 15 years of age I was introduced to an Army a shelter-half. Welcome to pitching a tent military style! Surprising how warm that was with just a candle, building bridges on the river in wintery Missouri.
Joining the Army during the Vietnam era, I spent time as a Combat Engineer and made my way into Special Forces. We did do some “camping out” as I recall in Vietnam, Taiwan and the backwoods North Carolina, sometimes for weeks at a time. I left SF as a Captain and heading for Colorado and lots of fishing and and time in the outdoors.
We have had 8 Eurovans and in between 1 travel trailer, 1 class C and 2 Class A’s. The Eurovans were the best because of size and that is why the one we are waiting for is a Class B Sprinter RB.
We have had some great travels like Australia, New Zealand, France, Scotland, Ireland, England, Kuwait, Jordon and Iraq and much of the USA. North America is my choice for the most fun mainly because we can camp!
Now, occasional longer trips are more possible and the need to get away stronger. We’ll keep the photos and travelogue here along with some good information on getting out on the road. I may interject a thought here and there - if you don’t agree let me know why. Unlike our leaders, I am willing to change position should I learn anything knew. I think I remember doing that once back in the last century . . .
Our excellent adventures will be here for friends, relatives and the curious to monitor. Hopefully we will meet along the trail!
Oh yeah, here’s my card . . . (some true and some . . . , well you decide)
