Getting an emergency key
Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008Sprinters come with 2 or 4 keys, depended on what you ordered. If you did not get 2 or 4, call your dealer - somewhere there is an extra key running around to your big toy!
I went to a local locksmith to get just a door lock key made
but it would have been $35 sooooo, since I all ready had 4 keys, I drilled the pin out that holds the key to the fob (is that the word?). Use a 1/16” bit - takes about 10 seconds.
Then you are left with the two pieces. You can hide the key or carry it in your wallet and use it to open the door. (It is hard to grip so a Leatherman or small pliers would probably be needed.)
If you keep the fob in the vehicle, you can also use the key to start it. Slide the key in and pass the fob over the key. It will click. Turn it and you are on your way.
